The Inland Revenue Office, Baglung, has collected only 31 percent of the annual tax target in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2082/083.

The total tax collection target for the entire fiscal year was Rs 1.43 billion 3.4 billion, of which Rs 448 million 75 thousand have been collected till Poush. That is 30.75 percent. Chief Tax Officer Kapil Silwal said that Rs 135.3 million revenue was collected in Poush alone.

The office has collected Rs 243 million 58 thousand towards income tax in the first 6 months. Similarly, Rs 3.9 million has been collected towards fixed tax, Rs 45.8 million 90 thousand towards interest, and Rs 106.8 million 39 thousand towards value added tax, Silwal informed. In addition, Rs 36.7 million 13 thousand has been collected towards excise duty in Baglung. Rs 44 million 80 thousand has been collected towards health tax in the district.

Recently, cooperatives doing large business have started paying the tax they used to pay in Baglung at the large taxpayer office in Pokhara. Information Officer Rajnamani Sharma informed that this trend has shown a decrease in tax collection.

In the fiscal year 2081/082, Baglung collected Rs 1.766 billion in taxes. The office, which collected 88 percent of the target of collecting Rs 1.2239 billion, is behind the target of Rs 1.43 billion this year. The highest amount of taxes collected is collected from income tax.

In the last fiscal year, Rs 601 million was collected from income tax alone. Apart from that, Rs 104.1 million was collected from interest tax, Rs 297.4 million from VAT, Rs 58.5 million from excise duty, Rs 15.3 million from rental tax and Rs 58.5 million from education tax.

In the previous fiscal year 2080/081, the office collected only 80 percent or Rs 966.7 million of the target of collecting Rs 1.20 billion. Recently, tax collection has also improved as business PAN and excise duty have also increased.

Recently, microfinance institutions with income up to Rs 500 million have started paying taxes at the higher level. While microfinance institutions remained in the district, they collected Rs 999.7 million in the fiscal year 2076/077, an increase of 103 percent, and Rs 1.09 billion in the fiscal year 2077/078, a 126 percent increase. Last year, the office conducted 22 taxpayer education campaigns on 82 indicators and registered 2,123 income tax and 1,999 VAT taxpayers in a single year. Similarly, 7,747 individual and 1,917 excise taxpayers have been added in a single year.

There are 25,000 business taxpayers in Baglung. The Taxpayer Service Office in neighboring Parbat district has been closed since the beginning of the current fiscal year. Most of the work done by this office has been transferred to the Treasury and Accounts Control Office, while some essential work will be done by the Inland Revenue Office, Baglung.
