”I didn't have to look at the date or time to go to the mountains,” said former National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Timalsina. ”Let's not talk to the media over the phone, I will come as needed.”

On Magh 20, UML candidate Padam Giri, along with cadres and leaders, reached the office of the Chief Electoral Officer and registered his candidacy. At that time, UML cadres searched for former National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timalsina and Constituent Assembly member Bikash Lamsal. But both of them were not present there.
Giri started a door-to-door campaign from Kushma-3, Durlung a week ago. Giri, who is waiting for his third victory, did not get the support of his own senior leaders there either. After Timalsina and Lamsal did not appear in the election campaign, the cadres allege that a faction is working within the party. The cadres here say that Timalsina and Lamsal's politics have been overshadowed after UML central member and district in-charge Giri strengthened his influence in the party.
The cadres understand that Timalsina and Lamsal have become irresponsible after UML President KP Sharma Oli hugged Giri. Timalsina of Modi-7 Ramja is living in Pokhara with his family. He used to visit his home district while he was in office but has not returned now. ‘I didn’t have to look at the date or time to go to Parbat,’ said the former Speaker of the National Assembly, ‘Let’s not talk to the media on the phone, I will come as needed.’
Timalsina, who was elected as a member of the Politburo from the UML’s ninth national general convention in 2070, was the Gandaki Province Co-Coordinator. In 2054, he became the chairman of the then District Development Committee of Parbat. He was a candidate from Parbat-1 in the direct election of 2070 and was defeated by Arjun Prasad Joshi of the Nepali Congress.
Timalsina and Lamsal were not able to be representatives from Parbat in the 11th general convention of UML. The representative selection committee, coordinated by central member Giri, had sidelined both of them. Lamsal says that he did not appear in the election campaign going on in the district as he was not in the party’s responsibility. He said that the campaigning work would start legally only from Falgun 4. ‘Friends have held an internal meeting, I am not in it,’ he said, ‘There is no election now, there is no time for campaigning.’
Lamsal, who won from Parbat-2 in the second Constituent Assembly election in 2070, had to contest the provincial assembly election in 2074. Giri benefited from the alliance between the then UML and the Maoist Center. UML District President Govinda Pahadi said that even though Timalsina and Lamsal are not in the election fray, he is working as a monitoring team. He said that a team of 12-15 people is being formed to focus on the election.
