It has snowed again in Manang after a week. Manang, which had snowed the previous Tuesday (Magh 14), received snowfall again on Tuesday.
Locals have reported snowfall in the upper areas from Dhikur Pokhari in Upper Manang. According to Kanchha Ghale, Chairman of Manang Ngisyang Rural Municipality, the weather deteriorated after a brief spell of sunshine on Tuesday morning. He said that it started snowing slowly from 1-2 pm and started to snow heavily from around 3 pm.
‘Yesterday’s snow had not melted completely, it has added more.’ He said that snowfall now is good for farming and grazing,’ he said. According to him, people are warming themselves by the fire inside their homes even though it is cold outside. He said that they were not much affected by the snowfall as there was no wind.
According to Umakanta Sapkota, Accountant of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Manang, snowfall has been occurring in Manang village and the upper areas since 3 pm. ‘Yesterday it was sunny all day. It was sunny for a while in the morning too. It snowed since the afternoon,’ he said.
According to him, 18 foreign tourists have gone towards Thorangla. He said that tourists have been urged to go to their destinations safely, keeping in mind the risk situation during the snowfall.
According to Chief District Officer Nawaraj Paudyal, snowfall has been occurring in the upper areas of Manang since the afternoon. He said that it was cloudy in the district headquarters Chame, but there was no rain or snow. ‘It was sunny till the afternoon. The weather changed from 1-2 pm,’ he said, ‘It has not been as heavy as yesterday. It has started to snow.’
According to him, the road closed due to snowfall a week ago was opened a few days ago. On Wednesday, vehicles had also gone towards Upper Manang. He said that the road is now closed. ‘There will be no problem for tourists walking. There will be problems for those coming on motorcycles,’ he said. He said that snowfall may have occurred in the Narpabhumi region as well as the upper areas.
