Locals from the surrounding villages also participated in the campaign, which began informally. Mothers from Ghalegaun wished him well by wearing rubas (mantra threads).
After nominating the candidate, CPN (UML) Vice-Chairman Prithvi Subba Gurung reached Ghalegaun, a popular rural tourist village, along with his wife Kumarimuni Gurung, on Tuesday.
When he was the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in the interim government formed in 2064 after the restoration of peace, Ghalegaun was declared a model village of South Asia (SAARC Village) on his initiative.
This village, located in Kholasothar Rural Municipality-3, is a neighboring village of Prithvi Subba. Ward No. 9, Gilung Taksar, offered prayers to seven girls on Wednesday morning by offering them Akshata (tika) made of curd and rice and garlands of hundred-leaf flowers and announced the start of the election campaign. Ghalegaun was further recognized by the leadership of Prem Bahadur Ghale. Ghale is a proportional candidate from the CPN (UML) for the House of Representatives.
Locals from the surrounding villages also participated in the campaign, which started informally. The mothers of Ghalegaun wished him well by wearing rubas (threads of mantras). ‘I came looking for stones, you gods found me. I came to meet Prem Ghale, I met you,’ he said, ‘My election campaign has started from today.’ He also mentioned that he had a darshan of Tije Uttarkanya Devi in the morning. According to him, she is known as a great goddess in this area. Not only that, he also visited the statue of Chhinla Kroi, the creator of the Gurung Gurung Pye (Vedas), and the last Gurung king, Klalboroja Clay.
‘Many of the children I gave birth to became orphans. It felt very dry. Some remained in the womb, they were never born. The meaning of the saying is that I have brought many plans, road plans, water plans. School plans, bridge plans, playground plans, many have not been completed, they are abandoned, some have not moved forward,’ he said. He gave the example of the blacktop connecting Ghalegaun, which he started in 2075 when he was the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, but it could not be completed even after 7 years.
‘Covid hit in 2076. In 2077, the contractor was reluctant to come. We caught, called, and brought many contractors from Gandaki Province and got the work done,’ he said, ‘Kancharam Tamang (Congress leader) is the contractor here. Before this, I had many conversations with him when I was in Parliament. It is still incomplete. The work that was said to be completed in 2 years took 7/8 years.’ He said that these roads were taken forward as green roads around 2053 BS.
‘Some were laid, but have been closed. Some we decided, but have not been implemented. They remained in the womb, not born. There are many such plans in Lamjung,' he said, 'Sometimes you lose the election, sometimes you win. When you win, you cannot become a minister. Even if you become a minister, you cannot become a minister.' He said that development has not gained momentum because the governments other than his did not take forward the multi-year plans. He said that he would have the opportunity to become the minister of his choice if he goes to the party government as an office-bearer and urged them to win this time too. He said that his candidacy is to complete the unfinished plan.
He is contesting the election for the second time in Lamjung, where only one constituency has been established for members of the House of Representatives after federalism. In the 2079 elections, Prithvi Subba Gurung was elected by defeating the then ruling coalition candidate Dev Prasad Gurung, the then General Secretary of the Maoist Center.
Along with Prithvi Subba Gurung, 12 candidates have been nominated for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21, including Nepali Congress district member Gam Prasad Gurung, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) central organization department member Dharmaraj KC, Nepali Communist Party (NCP) district chair Kebindra Jung Gurung, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWP) district chair Gujeshwari Prajapati Magaju, Santosh Ghimire, CPN (Maoist) district chair Rabindra Nakhola, National Republic Nepal's Bharat Gurung, Mongol National Organization's Bikash Gurung, Shram Sanskriti Party's Kosh Lal Gurung, and Janadesh Party's Milan Baskota, informed Assistant Election Officer Rambandhu Gautam. According to him, no complaint has been filed against any of the candidates here.
