An exhibition of 59 types of agricultural crops and livestock products produced within Marsyangdi Rural Municipality of Lamjung has been held.
On the occasion of National Agricultural Biodiversity Week 2082, the rural municipality organized an agricultural fair exhibition on Wednesday at the Agricultural and Animal Service Center in Khudi, Ward No. 3. Farmers, farmer groups, agricultural firms and cooperatives from various villages of the rural municipality exhibited their agricultural and animal products at the fair. Earlier, the rural municipality, which has been conducting fairs from time to time, has emphasized the promotion of local products through the agricultural fair exhibition, said Binod Dahal, head of the rural municipality's agriculture branch. According to him, the Ghanpokhara Agricultural Cooperative Society exhibited 63 types of rice of indigenous varieties only.
Similarly, 6 varieties of kaguno were also put on display at the fair. Various vegetables including wild yam, bhirmah, amla, lemon, orange, rayo, cauliflower, akbare, chilli, radish, banana, farsi, and coffee, attracted the attention of the audience at the fair. In terms of livestock, roosters, buffaloes, goats and fish were also put on display.
The Agricultural Development Office had conducted an agricultural camp during the program. In addition, handicrafts produced by trainees of the Rural Training Center Simpani and handicraft materials produced in rural areas were also used in the exhibition. Visitors came from Marsyangdi Rural Municipality and Besisahar Municipality to see the exhibition. Students from Amar Secondary School and Himchuli English School in Khudi also visited.
Rural Municipality Chairman Arjun Gurung said that the fair and exhibition was organized to promote agriculture and agricultural products. ‘Our objective is to support farmers and the products they produce as well as facilitate the demonstration, adoption and expansion of new agricultural technologies,’ he said. ‘We believe that when farmers display their products in public, their self-confidence will increase.’
Chairman Gurung informed that a competition was also organized between the agricultural and livestock products displayed at the exhibition to further motivate farmers. According to him, the best products have been classified into various categories and prizes have been given.
