UML has changed its candidate in Kaski Constituency No. 2. The UML, which decided to field district in-charge Krishna Thapa on Saturday, has nominated Rashmi Acharya in his place after intense criticism within the party and on social media.

According to party sources, the leadership reconsidered the decision after local workers and well-wishers expressed widespread dissatisfaction with Thapa's candidacy. Thapa, who was defeated in the Pokhara Metropolitan City mayoral election in 2079, had announced at that time that he would not contest the election. He was being criticized for taking the ticket again, contrary to his old commitment.

Rashmi Acharya, who has come into the limelight as a new candidate, is the former president of the Independent University of Prithvi Narayan Campus. Acharya has said that he is yet to receive the official letter of the ticket.

Thapa, a former UML leader, has previously served as the mayor of Pokhara Sub-metropolitan City and a member of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly. When he got the mayoral ticket in the previous local level election, he called it his 'last election'. For this reason, young leaders had increased pressure, saying that making him a candidate again would damage the party.

Especially at a time when the party is demanding that Gen-G address the growing political awareness and desire for change, the workers had expressed concern that repeating the old face could have adverse results. Rabindra Adhikari had previously won the election in the constituency three times. Vidya Bhattarai won the by-election after his death and in the 2079 election.
