Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Central Vice President Hemjung Gurung has shown reluctance to be a candidate for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for Falgun 21. He has shown reluctance to be a candidate from his home district.

He had previously contested the elections directly but preferred to remain in the proportional list this time after not being ranked first.

Although he was likely to be the first or sole recommendation when claiming from Lamjung, the RPP did not recommend his name as he showed reluctance to contest the elections directly.

RPP sources say that he was reluctant to participate in the direct elections from his own home district due to the weak party base. Vice President Gurung said that he did not remain in the list after not being ranked first in the proportional list for the tribal quota. ‘I have already been ranked second. I will not remain in the list after I put my name there,’ he said.

Saying that he has already participated in the direct elections in Lamjung before, he indicated that he does not want to contest the elections this time. ‘First, whether there will be elections on Falgun 21 or not, why should we contest the elections!,’ he said.

After Hemjung, who was ranked second among the tribal men in the proportional list, became reluctant, spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, who was ranked fourth, has moved up to third. Rajendra Gurung has moved up to second. Toran Bahadur Gurung is ranked first.

Hemjung is a former chairman of the District Development Committee, chairman of the Besisahar Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumers Committee, and chairman of the Besisahar Municipal Development Committee.

RPP Lamjung Chairman Kevendra Jung Gurung says that he could not win because Lamjung did not recognize Hemjung. He claimed that if there is a situation where elections are held, Hemjung will contest from Kathmandu. However, Hemjung said that nothing can be said now.

The RPP has recommended District Working Committee Secretary Meghraj Gurung and former President Indra Bahadur Malla for the direct nomination for the House of Representatives election from Lamjung. It has recommended Province Committee member Shobha Rana Magar for the proportional representation. RPP sources have said that although two names have been recommended for the direct nomination, Meghraj Gurung will be finalized.
