The CPN (UML) Lamjung District Committee has recommended the names of six people for direct candidacy for the House of Representatives elections scheduled to be held on Falgun 21.
The tenth meeting of the district committee held on Saturday at the party office Madan-Aashrit Smriti Bhawan in Besisahar decided to recommend the names of six people, including central vice-chairman Prithvi Subba Gurung, to the central committee.
According to district committee chairman Rajkumar Bista, the list of recommendations includes Gurung, Jamindraman Ghale, Dhananjay Dawadi, Krishna Prasad Adhikari, Bhagwati Thapa (Kalpana) and Laxmi Devi Adhikari.
Prithvi Subba Gurung is the first Chief Minister of Gandaki Province and a former member of the House of Representatives. He is also a former minister of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The recommended Jamindraman Ghale, Krishna Prasad Adhikari and Bhagwati Thapa are UML central committee members. Dawadi is the party's Gandaki Province Committee Secretary and Laxmi Devi Adhikari is a member of the Province Committee Secretariat.
Ghale is a member of the Constituent Assembly. Laxmi Devi Adhikari is a former deputy mayor of Besisahar Municipality. Dawadi is a provincial assembly member elected from Lamjung Province Assembly (A) in the 2074 BS elections. Krishna Prasad Adhikari and Ghale were defeated in the 2079 provincial assembly elections from Lamjung Provincial Assembly (A) and (B), respectively.
The district committee has stated that the names were recommended based on the party's organizational status, the candidate's experience and political contribution. The UML has stated that the final candidate selection will be made by the central committee.
