Muktinath-Tetang road expansion makes travel easier for locals

What you should know

Construction of the (Muktinath-Tetang) ring road connecting Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Waragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality is underway, so that visitors can visit the famous religious pilgrimage site Muktinath Temple and then travel to Upper Mustang via an alternative route.

The physical progress of the road has been 39 percent in the five months of the current fiscal year. The Infrastructure Development Office under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport, Gandaki, has implemented the 10-kilometer ring road plan connecting Muktinath Purang to Jhong.

The construction company had signed a contract agreement with the Infrastructure Development Office on 29th Shrawan 2081 BS at a cost of 71.56 million to expand the 6-meter-wide alternative road connecting Muktinath-Tetang. The office has set a deadline of 29th Shrawan 2083 BS for the road upgrade and opening of new tracks with a target of completing it in two years.

According to the contract agreement for the Muktinath-Tetang road, there is a plan to open 6.5 kilometers of new roads and upgrade 3.5 kilometers of roads out of the 10 kilometers of roads, informed Sub-Engineer Jagadish Chandra Joshi of the Infrastructure Development Office. According to him, although the work of opening a new track of the road has been completed here, it is seen that the road needs to be repaired at that place as it was partially damaged by the rains of last Asoj.

Sub-Engineer Joshi said that the Muktinath road upgrade work is underway to connect Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Waragung Muktikshetra with a four-lane road. According to him, while the Muktinath-Tetang road project here has made 39 percent physical progress, the financial progress is 28.58 percent. So far, the construction company has paid Rs 256,000.

If the Muktinath-Tetang road upgrade, which is being taken forward by the provincial government, is completed, local citizens and tourists of Upper Mustang will not have to go to Muktinath via Kagbeni and Khinga. If citizens of the upper region have to go to Muktinath from Chhusang, it will be easier to go to Muktinath by using the alternative ring road from Chhusang via Tetang. This will shorten the distance for tourists and local citizens going to Muktinath from Upper Mustang.

Once this road is completed, local residents of Chengur, Jhong, Pudak and Tetang villages in the Waragung Mukti area will have much easier transportation.
