Prithvi Narayan Gold Cup Football from Magh 24

The 'First Prithvi Narayan Gold Cup' football tournament is scheduled to be held in Gorkha from Magh 24 to Falgun 2.

The District Sports Development Committee is organizing a Gold Cup football tournament in memory of Prithvi Narayan Shah.

8 teams will participate in the tournament to be held at the Chhebetar Sports Ground in Gorkha Municipality-10. Nepal's 'A' Division clubs, prestigious clubs from the Mofusal and the host team will participate, said District Sports Development Committee Chairman Prem Bahadur Tamang.  

The winning team of the tournament has been provided with 800,000 rupees in cash. The runner-up will receive 400,000 rupees. Prizes have also been provided to the best players, goal scorers, goalkeepers and coaches in the individual categories. The organizers estimate that 3 to 5,000 spectators will attend each match of the tournament. 

It is estimated that 8.2 million rupees will be spent on running the tournament. The Gandaki Province government has allocated 15 and Gorkha Municipality 500,000 rupees for running the tournament.

Tamang said that preparations have also begun to collect other funds required for running the tournament. He said that the Prithvi Narayan Gold Cup will continue next year as well.
