The victim's family and locals have expressed gratitude to the police investigation team for successfully arresting the accused after seven months in the murder case of a woman in Bhakunde, Besisahar Municipality-2.
The victim's family, locals and public representatives of Besisahar Municipality-2 thanked the police for the arrest of the accused on Thursday.
Police have arrested Buddhiram Darai, 47, of Ratnanagar Municipality-7, Chitwan, on charges of murdering former police constable Sita Kandel, 46. Darai was arrested from Belhiya, Siddharthnagar Municipality-1, Rupandehi, on November 18 while returning to Nepal, according to the District Police Office, Lamjung.
Kandel's body, who lived alone, was found covered with tarpaulin and ply inside the low bed of the house on April 31. The police said that the investigation is underway based on a detailed study of the incident site, collection of evidence and technical analysis.
The deceased's mother Parbati Dhital Khatri, brother Shukra Dhital alias Bhagwan, brother Parashuram Dhital, other relatives, ward chairman Madan Bahadur Rana, locals and central member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Krishna KC were present at the program organized on Thursday. They garlanded and lauded the team including DSP Resham Bohra and Police Inspector Abhishek Pandey involved in the investigation.
Ward chairman Rana said that the arrest of the accused was a positive message in favor of justice due to the continuous efforts and perseverance of the police. 'The belief that the criminal will be brought to justice wherever he goes has become strong,' he said. DSP Bohra said that the complex investigation was successful due to the support, patience and trust of the community.
According to the police, Darai had murdered Kandel on Chaitra 27 and fled to India. It has been revealed that he has been living in hiding as a security guard in New Delhi. Police have said that the Lamjung District Court has extended the time limit for the murder case against Darai.
According to the police, the accused Darai was previously convicted in the murder case of 53-year-old Chinimaya Pandey of former Finam VDC-5 of Gorkha on Mangsir 12, 2067 and sentenced to life imprisonment with all his property by the District Court Gorkha. After the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to 12 years in prison on Chaitra 13, 2071, he was released from Dhading Prison on Asoj 3, 2076.
It has been revealed that Kandel and Darai became acquainted while they were in Chitwan Prison around 2071 and that they had contact and contact even after their release from prison. Police have said that the initial investigation has shown that the accused had planned the murder in advance after their mutual disputes escalated recently. Police say that Darai returned to Chitwan after not getting a chance to stay at the guest house and upon receiving information that Kandel was alone, he returned to Lamjung, murdered him, hid the body and fled.
