Woman arrested on charges of involving minor in sex work

Lamjung police have arrested a woman on charges of involving a minor in the sex trade.

Police have arrested 45-year-old Kopila Shrestha, the owner of a grocery store and hotel in Besisahar Municipality-8, on charges of involving minors in immoral activities under the guise of running a grocery store and hotel.

District Police Office Chief DSP Resham Bohara said that the woman was arrested based on a complaint. The police team also said that they rescued three minors from the store. He said that the rescued minors have been sent to a shelter home for necessary protection.

Police have started further investigation against the arrested Shrestha by obtaining a 7-day extension of remand from the Lamjung District Court on Tuesday for the crime of human trafficking and smuggling.

According to the police, initial investigation has revealed that the minors, who were financially weak, were kept in the store by luring them with work and were involved in the sex trade by arranging a separate room behind the store. Police said Shrestha was taken into custody on Monday after evidence was found that he had involved a minor in immoral activities and profited financially from it.
