Work on the 'Signature' bridge, which has begun construction on the Narayani River between Gaindakot and Narayangadh, has been halted due to the non-arrival of a machine to test the load-bearing capacity.

The construction of the bridge has been halted due to the non-availability of the load-bearing capacity measuring machine required to be placed under the bridge pillars. The construction work has been halted due to the 'Osol', a device used to measure the load-bearing capacity of the bridge foundation, being stuck at the Chinese customs.

According to Engineer Arjun Ghimire of the Road Division Office, Bharatpur, who oversees the bridge, the construction work could not be carried out as the 'Osol' purchased from China is undergoing customs clearance.

Engineer Ghimire said that the target is to start the work after the goods arrive in a week. Such Osol equipment has not been installed in any bridge constructed in Nepal so far. Engineer Ghimire informed that the foundation of the two pillars to be placed in the middle of this bridge will be 45 meters deep from the surface of the Narayani River.

The construction work of the bridge, which was laid by the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal a year and a half ago, began on November 14. Curiosity has increased after the work was stopped within a week of its start.

The construction of a new 'Signature' bridge to be built east of the existing bridge crossing the Narayani River has been moved forward. Engineer Ghimire claims that this bridge, which is targeted to be completed within the next 3 years, will be the first of its kind in Nepal. This bridge will be 12.65 meters wide.

The bridge, whose map was prepared 7 years ago, will have only two lanes. Although it is necessary to build a bridge with at least 4 lanes to handle the increasing traffic, the Bridge Division has started the work by awarding a contract after approving the old map. While the Butwal-Narayangadh and Hetauda-Narayangadh roads leading to this bridge are being constructed with 6 lanes, the bridge to be built on the Narayani River has been limited to 2 lanes. The 'Signature' bridge to be built here at a cost of Rs 1.68 billion will be constructed by tying logs to two tall pillars to be erected in the middle.

The bridge, which was built 44 years ago, is currently used to cross the Narayani River. The newly constructed bridge will also be the same size as the old bridge, with the vehicular portion of the bridge measuring 7.5 meters. The Bridge Division says that this bridge will be Nepal's new model and attractive.
