Dordi Rural Municipality of Lamjung is planning to organize the first Dordi Sports, Agriculture, Tourism and Cultural Festival-2082, bringing together sports, agriculture, tourism and cultural activities in one place.
The rural municipality organized a press conference in the district headquarters, Besisahar, on Friday and announced that it will organize a festival at the playground in Nauthar Shera of the rural municipality on Poush 28, 29 and 30.
Rural municipality chairman Yubaraj Adhikari said that the festival is being organized with the aim of promoting tourism in the rural municipality, marketing local products, expanding internal trade and preserving folk art and culture. According to him, the festival will help build the overall identity of Dordi rural municipality. He said that the homestays and trekking routes in the villages of Dordi will be promoted through the festival.
The festival has programs including a rural municipality-level football competition, agricultural fair and exhibition, honoring the best farmers, cultural tableau and folk dance, open dance competition of mother groups, school and teacher honors. In addition, the organizers have stated that there will be performances by national and local artists.
According to Hemraj Kafle, Chief Administrative Officer of the rural municipality, local agricultural produce, cash crops, animal husbandry, beekeeping, vegetables, fruits, agricultural machinery and technology will be displayed through the agricultural fair and exhibition. 'This will inform farmers about new technologies and help expand the market for local products,' he said.
He said that the festival plans to honor excellent farmers and encourage them towards commercial agriculture. He said that cultural tableaus, folk dances and dance competitions of mother groups are expected to strengthen community unity while preserving endangered cultures.
Rural municipality Employment Coordinator Dharmaraj Gurung said that the festival will attract youth to sports, increase the activity of women's groups and help create local employment opportunities. 'The festival will provide an opportunity to identify local talent and introduce Dordi from the district to the national level,' he said.
According to the organizers, the budget for the festival is estimated at around Rs 1.7 million. The organizers have stated that the festival will be made successful with the collaboration of the rural municipality, local community, and stakeholders.
