Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki met the family of Police Assistant Constable Amrit Gurung, who lost his life in Koteshwor, Kathmandu, on Sunday during a Gen-G protest. They met the family at Gurung's house in Rupa Rural Municipality of Kaski.

A team including Home Secretary Rameshwor Dangal, Chief of the Peace and Security Division Anand Kafle, Chief District Officer Rudra Devi Sharma and Joint Spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Deputy Secretary Rabindra Acharya have reached Gurung's family to express their condolences. They will participate in the Gandaki Province-level security seminar to be held in Pokhara on Monday.

After reaching Gurung's house, Home Minister Aryal and IGP Karki said that the state will always remember the sacrifice of Amrit, who lost his life in the line of duty. Minister Aryal expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and said that the state will always be with them. 'The state will provide all possible support. We will also make appropriate arrangements for employment,' he said, 'The government is committed to fully compensating the family.'

During the meeting, Vice-Chairman of Rupa Rural Municipality Lalsubba Gurung demanded that permanent employment be arranged for the martyr's wife Kanti Gurung to earn a living. She had requested that Kanti, who has passed her bachelor's degree in English, be provided employment based on her educational qualifications. In response, Home Minister Aryal assured immediate support from all three levels of government and to take initiatives to provide employment according to qualifications.

He was beaten, stabbed and killed on 24 Bhadra while on duty in the Koteshwor Police Division. His mother also passed away this year. He currently has a wife, two-year-old son and father at home. Anupam Bhandari of Kailali has been arrested and sent to jail on charges of his murder.

According to the Nepal Police regulations, the organization provides various facilities to the families of police personnel who are martyred in the line of duty. Amrit has been promoted one level posthumously. Nepal Police has announced that it will provide financial assistance of Rs 1 million to the martyr's family. There is a provision to provide about Rs 2.5 to 3 million immediately for the Police Welfare Fund and insurance. There is a rule that the government will provide scholarships to the children of martyrs up to grade 12 and a lifetime pension to their wives.
