Pokhara Metropolitan City is planning to erect a 15-foot-tall statue of the Sarangi at Lakeside's Basundhara Park to promote the folk instrument Sarangi as its identity. The metropolis has allocated Rs 5 million for the construction of the 'Sarangi Park' with the statue.
The foundation stone of Sarangi Park will be laid on 1 Poush on the occasion of the 67th foundation day of the Metropolitan City. Sarangi players are residing in various wards including Batulechaur in Pokhara. Sarangi is a folk instrument established as the identity and symbol of Pokhara.
The Metropolitan City is celebrating its foundation day for three days on 29 Mangsir, 1 and 2 Poush. At a press conference organized on Friday to provide information about the foundation day, Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya said that this park is being built to promote Sarangi. ‘This park is being built to promote Sarangi, the carrier of Pokhara’s original culture,’ he said. He informed that a competition has been organized for materials that will be recognized as the identity of Pokhara and Sarangi was selected from the competition.
On the occasion of the foundation day, the Metropolitan City is going to honor the Pokhara Navratnas who have contributed in various fields. Nine individuals who have made significant contributions in the fields of language, literature, art (music, dance, drama, painting), education, health, agriculture and entrepreneurship, social service, sports, tourism promotion and environmental protection, science, technology and innovation and other fields will be honored with Pokhareli Navratna along with 2 lakh 2 thousand 202 copper plates, dosalla and medals.
The metropolis is honoring 11 employees who are the best, excellent and dutiful among the employees working in the metropolis. The 3 wards with the best cleanliness out of all 33 wards of the metropolis, the best office in cleanliness out of the offices under the metropolis and the best taxpayer who pays the highest revenue regularly and on time to the metropolis will also be honored. The metropolis will also hold a program to honor the Metropolitan Parents (Senior Citizens) based on seniority. The Pokhareli Navratna Honor, the best employee, taxpayer and Metropolitan Parents Honor will be held at the main ceremony to be held on 2 Poush, informed the Metropolitan Mayor Acharya.
67 students who scored 4 GPA in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and 12 students who scored 4 GPA in the Metropolitan Level Examination (Class 8) will be honored. 30 students who achieved average achievement in the subject in the Class 8 examination and 30 in the SEE examination will also be honored. 60 excellent teachers, including 30 students who achieved average achievement in the subject in the Class 8 examination, will also be honored. 15 schools that achieved 100 percent results in the Class 8 examination, 49 in the SEE examination and 1/1 school that achieved the highest GPA in the community and institutional schools will be honored on the occasion.
