The World Malayalam Council (WMC), an organization of Malayalam speakers, originally from the Indian state of Kerala but spread to various countries around the world, has also expanded its branch in Nepal. WMC plans to launch programs of assistance in the education, health and social sectors in Nepal, said Padma Kumar, president of the India region.
The Nepal Committee was formed under the chairmanship of Father Robbie, an educational figure affiliated with the Nepal Little Flower Society, at a program organized in Narayangadh.
Father Robbie said that they are in touch with 90 Malayalam speakers who have come from Kerala and are working in educational, industrial and various business establishments in Nepal. He said that 3 million Malayalis from 60 countries outside Kerala are connected to the WMC.
‘There is an opportunity to work together with Malayalis from all over the world. We will also be ready to help wherever there is a need,’ said President Father Robbie.
WMC was formed in New Jersey, USA, 30 years ago in 1995. Since then, WMC has 6 regional level committees spread across 60 countries.
