Eight deer have been found dead in the Matrubhumi Intermediate Community Forest.
Locals had informed the park and forest office after a deer was found dead in a community forest in Devchuli Municipality-13 of eastern Nawalparasi on Friday.
According to Avinash Thapa, Information Officer of Chitwan National Park, eight deer were found dead in one place at once. ‘A post-mortem report should be received to find out the cause of the deer’s death,’ he said. ‘It is not yet possible to say for sure whether it was due to eating poisonous grass or whether humans poisoned it with the intention of hunting it. As this is a serious matter, the necessary investigation has been initiated.’
Samples have been collected for post-mortem. Since there is a settlement near the forest, it is initially believed that the deer may have died after consuming a pesticide used in mustard while searching for food.
