Syangja Police on Tuesday arrested the accused who was absconding after raping an 11-year-old girl from Putalibazaar Municipality-14 in Syangja. The arrested person has been identified as 57-year-old Meg Bahadur Bhujel, a resident of Pipaldali, Putalibazaar-14.

Bhujel was sent to the Syangja District Jail on Wednesday to serve his prison sentence, informed District Police Chief Dadhiram Neupane. Bhujel, who was absconding after the District Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison in a rape case, was arrested after 13 years by a plainclothes police team deployed from the District Police Office. He had raped the girl in the forest of Brifen in the same ward on the evening of Bhadra 27, 2069.

After the victim's family filed a case against him, the District Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison in a verdict on Mangsir 23, 2073. Police have found that he has been living in hiding since the court's verdict and has been traveling abroad.
