Representatives have been unanimously elected in 5 out of 11 districts of Gandaki Province for the 11th General Convention of the UML.
UML Gandaki Province Committee Secretary Dhananjay Dawadi said that unanimous representatives were elected in Manang, Mustang, Myagdi, Baglung and Syangja.
Voting was held in Gorkha, Lamjung, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) and Tanahun on Saturday to elect representatives. Leaders are active in Kaski and Parbat to get unanimous votes. Due to the large number of aspirants, the representatives could not be finalized in both districts by 9 pm on Saturday.
A unanimous representative was elected in Tanahun's two constituencies, House of Representatives constituency number 2. Elections have been held in House of Representatives constituency number 1. UML Parbat Chairman Govinda Pahadi said that there were many aspirants and a facilitation committee was formed to coordinate the work. 'It is a district with many party members. We had formed a facilitation committee to coordinate at such a time. The committee could not work during the day. We are confident that it will be completed by late night,' he said.
Kaski has 3 constituencies. Among them, there has been unanimous agreement in constituencies 1 and 2. No agreement has been reached on who will send the representative in constituency 3. Although some aspirants have agreed to give the responsibility to the central leader to represent the district, not all candidates have agreed to this. Due to this, there is a possibility that the representative in Kaski will ultimately be decided according to the wishes of central leaders Khagraj Adhikari, Jagat Bishwakarma and others.
Prithvisubba Gurung, Padma Aryal, Kiran Gurung and Khagraj Adhikari are influential leaders of Gandaki in UML. They have so far been seen in favor of Chairman KP Sharma Oli. As everyone has been seen in the same camp, there was no factional dispute in the selection of representatives.
The election was held after the aspirants in Lamjung, the home district of Deputy General Secretary Gurung, refused to back down. Out of the 10 representatives to be selected, 33 had filed their candidacies.
Secretary Dawadi said that 137 representatives from Gandaki will participate in the general convention, representing the district, provincial committees and workers' areas. He said that 64 representatives will be elected from Gandaki for the open party, 39 for the women's party, 18 for the youth party, and 16 for the oppressed.
23 from Kaski, 15 from Syangja and Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat Susta), 14 from Parbat, 12 from Tanahun, 11 from Baglung, 10 from Lamjung, 9 from Gorkha, 6 from Myagdi, and 5 each from Manang and Mustang. Dawadi said that 7 representatives have been elected from the labor sector and 5 from the provincial committee.
