The morgue at the Gorkha Provincial Hospital has been filled with bodies found abandoned. The morgue, which has the capacity to hold two bodies, has been holding four bodies for the past five months.

Locals say that the stench has spread in the vicinity due to the lack of management of the bodies for a long time.

Siddharth Khanal, Medical Superintendent of the Provincial Hospital Gorkha, said that the delay in the management of the bodies has made it difficult to conduct post-mortems. ‘Four bodies have been managed in a place where two bodies could be kept,’ he said. ‘Now there is no place to keep another body, and there is also a problem in post-mortems due to the lack of body management.’

The post-mortem of the bodies in the humidification center inside the morgue has not been done either. ‘The bodies found in an abandoned state have started to stink after being left for five months,’ he said. ‘We have not been able to repair the condition of the humidification center after the bodies have been there for five consecutive months.’

There is a provision that the local level must manage the bodies found in an abandoned state. District Police Chief SP Bharat BK said that facilitation is being done with the Gorkha Municipality for the management of the bodies.

Gorkha Municipality Mayor Krishna Rana said that work is being done to find a place to manage the abandoned bodies. "We are looking for a place where the locals will not be affected, it will be resolved in a short time," he said.
