Five people, including the accused involved in the arson attack on the houses of the Gandaki Province minister and the Pokhara Metropolitan City mayor on Bhadra 24, the day of the Gen-G movement, have been arrested.
A team from the District Police Office, Kaski, has arrested five people while searching for those involved in vandalism, arson and looting of government and non-government offices and houses in the district. The arrested people are Chandra Bahadur Thapa, 50, of Pokhara-10 Buddha Chowk, his brother Hari Bahadur Thapa, known as Khali, Abhimanyu Pandey, 35, of Pokhara-9 Nayabazar, Ramesh Thapa, 40, of Pokhara-26 Budhibazar, and Santosh Pariyar, 25, of Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-3.
They were arrested after they were found involved in arson at the house of Gandaki Province's Social Development, Youth and Sports Minister Bindu Kumar Thapa and Pokhara Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, arson at the Ward Police Office Bagar and weapons looting. Among those arrested, Chandra Bahadur was the president of the RSVP Pokhara-10, while Abhimanyu is a member of the RSVP. Chandra Bahadur was suspended by the disciplinary commission of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Gandaki Province Committee on Bhadra 30 after he was found involved in setting fire to the mayor's house. He has remained active in the RSS.
Pandey is accused of inciting a mob to set fire to Minister Thapa's house. He was also involved in vandalizing the statue of martyr Lakhan Thapa at Prithvi Chowk in Pokhara.
The investigation has been progressed by extending the time limit of the Kaski District Court for the offence of criminal harassment, said DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Kaski.
