The Syangja police have arrested the absconding accused in the gold and radio theft cases. Giri Bahadur Gurung, 68, of Ghurungkha, Waling Municipality-12, who was absconding after being sentenced to 1 month and 15 days in prison and a fine of Rs 4,500, was arrested on Thursday.
Gurung was produced before the district court by the Syangja police and sent to the district jail, said DSP Prashanna Raj Chaudhary, spokesperson of the district police.
The incident took place on April 15, 2035. Gold ornaments and a radio were stolen from the house of Dil Bahadur Rana Magar of Kalleri, Galyang Municipality-7. On November 16, 2045, the district court had sentenced him to imprisonment and a fine in the case of theft of the drum. He was absconding after the court verdict. A police team deployed in plain clothes has said that he was arrested from his house.
Earlier, 68-year-old Lal Bahadur Rana of Kalleri, Galyang-7 was also arrested in the same incident. Rana was arrested on Monday and produced before the district court and sent to the district jail on the same day to serve his sentence, according to the police.
Similarly, the absconding culprit in the assault case was also arrested on Wednesday after 30 years. 74-year-old Tham Prasad Pokharel, who was involved in the assault incident that took place in Biruwa Rural Municipality-4 on Chaitra 2052, has been arrested.
The District Court had sentenced him to 2 years in prison and a fine of Rs 10,000 on Baisakh 10, 2054. After the incident, he was living in Bardaghat in West Nawalparasi and was taken into custody by the police based on a tip-off. DSP Chaudhary said that he was sent to the district jail on Wednesday.
