128 people stranded in the Manaslu region after the snowfall that began last Tuesday have been rescued. As the weather cleared, 128 people were rescued by helicopter on Sunday and Monday, said DSP Rajkumar Shrestha of the District Police Office, Gorkha.
Police have said that those in Samagaun and Samdo areas who were unable to cross the Larke Pass due to heavy snowfall in the northern region were rescued by helicopter.
Assistant Chief District Officer Chitrangata Baral said that 51 helicopter flight permits were requested in the Manaslu area on Sunday and Monday alone. ‘Permissions were requested for 26 flights yesterday (Sunday) and 25 today (Monday),’ he said, ‘two/three more groups have also requested flight permits.’ The demand for helicopter flights has increased as the weather has cleared.
Similarly, police have also said that 3,736 people who had reached the Larke Pass due to heavy snowfall in the northern region have returned on foot. They have returned via an intermediate route without crossing the Larke Pass. Some tourists have also gone to Dharamshala after the weather cleared.
Work is also underway to open the snow-covered track in the Larke Pass area, according to the Manaslu Conservation Area (MCAP).
