Besisahar-Chame road reopens after landslide removal

The only road connecting the Himalayan district of Manang, the Besisahar-Chame road, which was blocked due to floods and landslides, has been reopened. The road was blocked after continuous rains caused flooding at Octopus Falls near Chyamche in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4 and a landslide at Kharkhare in Uttisghari, Besisahar Municipality-6.

Traffic was halted after four vehicles, including two Scorpios, were trapped in the Octopus Falls from Manang. As the water in the falls receded, all the vehicles were removed and the road reopened on Saturday morning, informed DSP Resham Bohara, Chief of the District Police Office, Lamjung.

According to him, traffic resumed after the trapped vehicles were removed with the help of dozers and excavators. He said that tourists who were stranded in the area on Friday after the flood and vehicles got stuck in the falls had gone to their destinations.

According to him, the landslide that fell on the Kharkharek road near Besisahar was cleared on Friday night and traffic was allowed to proceed. He said that there is no obstruction anywhere on the Besisahar-Chame road now.

Even if the Besisahar-Chame road is open, he requested people to travel with caution as there are risks in places during the rainy season.
