The only Besisahar-Chame road connecting Lamjung-Manang has been blocked due to floods and landslides caused by continuous rains.
Traffic has been completely stopped since Thursday afternoon after flooding occurred at Octopus Falls in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4 under the Lamjung section of the road and rocks and soil started falling from above in the Jagat area.
According to DSP Resham Bohara, Chief of the District Police Office, Lamjung, vehicles returning from Manang are stopped at Octopus Falls due to the flooding in the falls. 'Vehicles going towards Besisahar have been stopped from Jagat,' he said, 'Some vehicles are stuck in the falls.'
Similarly, the road has also been blocked due to rocks falling from above in Besisahar Municipality-6, Uttisghari Kharkhare, according to the police. It is said that the risk of floods and landslides has also increased in various places on the Besisahar-Chame road section in the areas around Rambazar, Jagat and Chamche.
Although there are currently fewer vehicles going to Manang from Lamjung, the police have stated that the number of passengers returning from Manang has increased due to snowfall. They are stranded on the road after the road was blocked.
DSP Bohara said that a police team has been deployed to the flood-hit area. However, the police have stated that it is difficult to immediately bring the road into operation due to continuous rain.
