Six people, including 3 foreigners, trapped in snow while climbing Pangbari Peak

Six people, including three Italian citizens, who had come to climb Pangbari Peak in Pangboche, Chumanubri Rural Municipality-1, have been trapped in the snow.

Italian citizens 65-year-old Velter Perlino, 67-year-old Stefano Farronato and 37-year-old Alessandro Gaputo and their guide and assistant were trapped in the snow, said SP Bharat BK of the District Police Office, Gorakh. He said that there was information that there was 1 person in Camp-1 and 2 foreigners and 3 Nepalis in Camp-4.

SP BK said that 6 locals from Samdo went to Pangbari Peak on horseback to rescue those trapped in the snowfall that started on Monday night. ‘The rescue team has already gone to the peak in the morning, there is difficulty in communication there,’ he said, ‘We understand that those trapped in the snow have pitched tents and are staying safely. A foreigner also had an injury to his leg, so the rescue team went with a horse.’

The place where they were trapped is 9 hours from the police post in Samagaun and 6 hours on foot north of Samdo, the base of the Armed Police Force of Nepal. Police have also stated that although coordination was made with Kailash Air helicopter company on Wednesday to rescue them, they were unable to take off due to weather conditions.

They had come to climb Pangbari Peak on Kartik 1 through Sherpa Alpine Trekking Service on the way to the Tajungbhanjyang checkpoint in Chumanubri-1 Pangboche.
