A guide has died after falling into a lake while returning from a trip to Phu village in Narpabhumi Rural Municipality-5, Manang.
The deceased was identified as Ram Thapa Magar, 44, of Bhanu Municipality-7 in Tanahun, said Manang Chief District Officer Nawaraj Paudyal. According to him, Thapa, who had reached Manang as a guide with a group of British citizens, fell ill while returning from Phu village on Saturday afternoon.
After receiving information about the incident at around 7 am on Sunday, a three-member team under the command of Police Inspector Hari Bahadur Pandey went to the scene of the incident for rescue. According to him, Thapa was staying at the Kerela Hotel in Narpabhumi Rural Municipality-2, Meta.
According to the police, information was received that he had died at the hotel around 7:15 am on Sunday before he was rescued by the Heli Everest helicopter.
After the incident, another team led by Police Inspector Sunil Lamichhane from the District Police Office, Manang, reached the scene of the incident. The body was rescued by helicopter and brought to the district headquarters, Chame, at 10:25 am on Monday.
After preliminary investigation and post-mortem, the body was sent to the Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu at 12:25 pm for further investigation and post-mortem, informed Chief District Officer Paudyal.
Two porters died on Friday and Saturday alone in Narpabhumi Rural Municipality of Manang.
