Highline practice has been conducted in the Kaligandaki gorge between Kusma in Parbat and Balewa in Baglung. Shankar Koirala, a native of Dhankuta, who is currently living in Germany, has done this program as his 'dream project'.
Koirala has been highlining in various places in Europe for 15 years. This was the first time that highlining was practiced at ‘The Cliff’, known as an adventure hub including bungee. Raju Karki, Chairman of The Cliff, said that it is commendable that such an effort by Highline in Nepal, coordinated by Koirala, is being done with the aim of promoting adventure tourism.
The Highline has 3 Nepalis and 3 foreigners, including Koirala, in its crew. The highline program, which started on October 29, will end today. This highline was organized in collaboration with the Nepal Slackline Community and the popular adventure hub ‘The Cliff’. Koirala said that this was possible due to continuous contact and collaboration for two years. According to Karki, Chairman of The Cliff,
The Cliff, this is the first time that highlining has been done at such a height in Nepal. ‘This is expected to open new doors of possibilities in adventure tourism,’ he said.
The 408-meter-long high-line rope connects the harness zipline towards Kusma and The Cliff towards Balewa. Koirala said that this project was taken forward with the experience of members of the Nepal slackline community and the help of European trainers. According to him, although the game looks scary, full safety standards have been adopted.
