The nurses of Gandaki Medical College (GMC) in Pokhara's Nayabazar have started a protest demanding an increase in salary. The agitation which has been going on by the nurses of Manipal Teaching Hospital for the last 4 days has also started in another large private medical college, GMC, from Monday evening.

A group of nurses approached the hospital administration and medical superintendent to express their demands throughout the day. However, after getting the answer that it is not possible to fulfill the demand completely, they have been agitated since evening.

Nurses sat on the ground in front of the hospital laboratory with placards for one hour in the evening and shouted slogans. They chanted slogans like 'Stop labor exploitation', 'Give justice to Nepal government'. Placards with slogans such as 'We are not machines', 'No nurses, no health care', 'We need justice', 'Save the nursing profession' were with them.

Nurses have partially stopped the services of some wards since Monday evening. A nurse said that if the demand is not met by 1 pm on Wednesday, there will be a complete pendown. "We have already done pendown in the ortho ward, gyno, HCU," said the nurse. The government had decided on 081 November 27 that the salaries of nursing and health workers working in health institutions should be implemented in such a way that the services and facilities do not decrease.

The nurses of two big hospitals in Pokhara have started a protest with this main demand. Although the management of both the hospitals are ready to increase the salary, they are saying that it is not possible to pay like the government.
