A climate conference is going to be held at the end of August in Mustang across the Himalayas, which is facing multiple disasters due to rapid changes in the climate cycle.
All 753 heads (mayors, presidents) and chief administrative officers of the country will participate in the 'Gharpazhong Mustang Climate Conference' organized by Gharpazhong Rural Municipality, where Mustang headquarters is Jomsom. About 3,000 delegates from all over the country will participate in the conference, according to the organizer Gharpazhong Rural Municipality.
The impact of climate change is not only in the Himalayas, but in all regions. But we are facing multiple disasters. The main objective of the conference is to convey the message to the stakeholders that the effects of climate change in the Himalayas will also affect the Terai through people's representatives across the country,' said Mohansin Lalchan, Chairman of Gharpazhong Rural Municipality, 'We have no contribution to emit gas that causes global warming. But we want to draw the attention of the world community from the public level so that we from remote places are not forced to suffer the punishment of uncontrolled development and pleasures done by people from other regions of the world.'
Climate change is a big challenge for the world. With the massive change in the cycle and style of snow and rain in Mustang, where there is more shadow rain, the agriculture, health, and culture of the region have also had a strong impact. Due to climate change, farming is gradually moving to higher areas and diseases that have not been seen in crops are being seen.
Gautam Sherchan, Ward President of Thasang Rural Municipality-4 Kowang, said that there is no snow in winter and no rain in monsoon, but sometimes there is a lot of rain. Mud houses have started leaking, water springs have dried up. As the snow line is moving up, there is also a problem in animal husbandry," he said. "Until a few years ago, apples grew in abundance in my garden. Now the plants are not flourishing. Except for paddy cultivation in Pokhara, all food crops have started growing in Mustang. This is destroying our lifestyle and cultural style.'
