The husband, who left his Dalit wife and had no contact after the birth of his son in Gorkha Hospital, was arrested from Dhading.
Police have arrested 22-year-old Milan Shrestha of Gajuri rural municipality-2 Malekhu Chepang of Dhading on charges of caste discrimination. Shrestha got married to Manika Periyar of Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-1 Bakrang in Gorkha in November 2080 after a love affair.
After the family found out that his pregnant wife was a Dalit, Shrestha had been out of contact since last November.
Manika, who came to Maitigaon Bakrang after her husband became uncontactable, gave birth to a son in Gorkha Hospital on May 10. Since the husband became uncontactable, even the son's birth registration was not made. "A complaint was filed for harassment based on caste discrimination, even denying the birth registration of his son on the grounds that he was a Dalit," DSP Indra Prasad Subedi of District Police Office Gorkha said, "During the search, we arrested Shrestha from Dhading on Sunday."
The police also informed that the investigation is being conducted with an extension of five days from the district court Gorkha for the investigation of caste discrimination against the accused on Monday. After the love affair, Manika and Milan were legally married. When the family found out that the wife he was in love with was a Dalit, not only did Milan's behavior change, he became out of contact. Manika has come to Maitigaon in Bakrang and is living in a temporary shelter.
