Communications and Information Technology Minister Prithvisubba Gurung has said that the government is going to introduce a bill to regulate the use of social media to regulate the chaos seen in the name of media.
Press Chowtari Nepal Kaski in a press conference held today in Pokhara, he said that the government is trying to spread confusion about the bill.
Minister Gurung said, 'This bill is not for control but for regulation. This government is a democratic government. It is not allowed to act in a way that undermines democratic values.'
Stating that any activity against nationalism, national independence and national unity will not be tolerated, he made it clear that because it is inevitable to control 'cybercrime', he is going to bring a law to create a legal basis .
Minister Gurung informed that electronic crime control has become challenging due to lack of clear laws and more than 19,000 complaints related to cybercrime have been received by the police in a period of nine to ten months.
Similarly, he said that he is going to introduce the Media Council Bill to replace the Press Council Bill and said that this bill will regulate all types of media.
Earlier when the Press Council Bill came, Minister Gurung said that this bill would regulate all types of media when the 'online' media had not been developed. "With the amendment of the old laws related to the communication sector, we are going to bring all kinds of new laws," he said.
