In the third week of January last, the local residents informed the division forest office after a leopard cub disturbed the black guard of the Deurali Pakha community forest in Mirkot, Palungtar Municipality-7. When the forest office team reached the forest area to rescue the crying baby, two other leopards were found dead.

Sitting between two dead leopards, another leopard was crying. The dead adult Mau and the baby leopard were brought by the rescue team to the forest office for post-mortem . Along with this, a three-week-old baby leopard in a very critical condition was also rescued.

"There were two cubs of the dead adult Mau, after the post-mortem we found out that the adult Mau died in a fight with a male leopard, one cub died in a fight with another Mau leopard and we found one in a very poor condition," said Madan Mohan Shandilya, head of Division Forest Office Gorkha, "The three-week-old male cub was alive but was hungry and injured. He had not been fed since Mau died about two days ago, along with the dead mouse. It was clinging, even when it was rescued, it did not look like a calf.'

In the first two days, it refused to eat even after being fed at the office and the situation became complicated, so the office sent Kaski to Pachbhaiya Wildlife Rescue Center for treatment. "Even the doctors at the rescue center did not think it would survive at first," he said.

The same Leo has completed 6 months now . Shandilya said that after being treated by the doctor at the rescue center, Leo has now 'turned around'. "Fifty percent of the children found in such a miserable condition have died while raising them, but the leopard rescued and sent from Mirkot is now very well," he said. "Even in the rescue center, regular monitoring and treatment was done by feeding milk and milk," he said. He said that discussions are also going on to release the leopards in their natural habitats.
