The construction of the road section of the Kaligand corridor from Balewa to Riddi was completed in the last week of May. The contractor completed the work 6 months ahead of schedule and handed over the project.

But after the start of rain in the same section, the road is blocked due to regular landslides. Binamare of Jaimini Municipality-5 and Baralaba near Kaligandaki Rural Municipality entrance of Gulmi have not been able to run due to regular landslides.  In the Maldhunga-Balewa section under construction of the

corridor, the road is blocked due to a landslide during stone quarrying and material extraction. It is not certain when the road, which has been closed since Saturday morning, will be opened. The landslide in Kalakhola of Baglung municipality-13 cannot be removed immediately.

In four places from Maldhunga to Kalakhola, instead of making the road on time, the contractor company is doing the work of extracting stones. It has also made and sold gravel by breaking the guard. The company which is extracting the materials from the hills here has delayed the work. Locals said that the landslide that occurred on Saturday also occurred at the place where stones and gravel were excavated. 'Bidari Construction' has taken over the construction of the Maldhunga-Balewa section costing 99 crores. Even though the time of the said section is over, the work is not completed.

'Stones were being excavated in such a way as to cause landslides, so now the problem has arisen,' Ward President Narayan Sharma Paudel said. If the guard is broken with breakers, the road will be blocked by dozens of such landslides.'' Although there is a provision in the design to bring gravel from elsewhere, after seeing that the guard and materials are coming, the contractor digs the hill and sells the material elsewhere.

There has been no work to open the blocked road for two days . Deputy Superintendent of Police Basant Regmi said that the locals were asked to use alternative roads as they could not open immediately due to falling stones. "Efforts are being made to open the road by coordination," he said, "There is no environment for rain to work easily." Due to random road digging, landslides have also occurred in Ecclesal of this section. Another road in Maldhunga Kushmisera has also become a risk due to this landslide. Due to regular landslides, the road is closed on rainy days.

There is a risk of landslides in Sahasradhara, Maldhunga and Nayapul from Kushma to Baglung under the Madhyapahari highway due to the widespread guarding. When it rains in those places, gravel is piled up and the road is blocked . Apart from that, there is a risk of falling rocks in old landslides due to the tremor of the breaker. After not being able to remove the stone of Ajang that fell last week, they are taking risks near Maldhunga. Umesh KC, president of Dhaulagiri Gandaki Transport Company, said, "There is a lot of risk for long and night service buses. The landslide has not been removed for two weeks." The engineer of the Public Road Project Office said that after the breakers were used, the road was immediately opened only one way.

Due to the digging of the road through the wall, Bihun, Dudilabhati and Malm on the Lokmarg are also blocked by landslides. Up to three-four times a week  Tej Bahadur Thapa, President of Galkot Municipality-9, said that night buses and daytime services have also been stopped. "The upper section has been eroded, the lower section has been pulled by the landslide," he said, "the upper settlement is also at risk due to the work of breaking the wall without building the base."

In some places, the road has become dangerous due to design errors. Amar Bahadur Thapa, Head of District Coordination Committee, said that the public road has become dangerous in Jhankristhan of Galkot-1, while the risk has increased in Ecclesal of Baglung Municipality-10 and Kalakhola of 13. He said that the contractor company and the project office have been requested to make those areas work in orderly and sustainable development.
