The number of tourists visiting Dhorpatan, the only hunting reserve in Nepal, is increasing every year. According to Dhorsikar Reserve Office Baglung, the number of domestic tourists visiting Dhorpatan has increased by eight thousand in the last one year.
According to Ranger Sagar Subedi of Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve Office, in the financial year 2080/81, 15,573 tourists visited Dhorpatan, and in 2081/82, the number of tourists increased by 8,000 to 23,692. Out of which there are only 12 SAARC nationals and 213 foreign nationals, while other tourists are domestic.
According to Subedi, the number of tourists is increasing every year due to the promotion of Dhorpatan, tourist infrastructure, Buki and tourists who hike in Jaljala. According to him, along with the increase in the number of tourists, the revenue has also increased. Nepali tourists who reach Dhorpatan have to pay 100 entry fee.
In the last year alone, more than 2 million revenue has been collected from the entry fee of tourists. "There has been an increase in the number of tourists due to publicity, the addition of tourist infrastructure, the discussion of Buki and Jaljala, and the management of hotels and residences," said Subedi.
While foreign tourists come to Dhorpatan only to play hunting, domestic tourists have been coming there recently to observe hunting reserve areas, Dhorpatan valley, Nisheldhor and Dhorbarah temples, Bukipatan and Jaljala. Ram Bahadur Gharti, operator of Dhorpatan Community Gharbas informed that there are two dozen hotels and gharbas in operation in Dhorpatan valley and because of the management of bringing tourists directly from Pokhara in packages, it is easy for tourists.
Tourists have started arriving from the valley at 2,900 meters above sea level to Bukipatan above 4,000 meters.
