Incessant rains are causing floods and landslides. It has been confirmed that many landslides have occurred in rural areas due to lack of management during road construction.

Stakeholders have said that the disaster was caused due to the lack of soil protection and flood prevention during the construction of roads and other developments. "When the was cast, the protection was overshadowed,"  Land Conservation Officer Shambhu Prasad Mishra told , 'That's why there was a loss of wealth due to the flood and landslide.'

Climate change is causing floods and landslides in unexpected places. He also suggested management along with development. "In every development budget, we need a policy of investing 10 percent towards conservation," he said.  Mishra suggests that the budget should include bio-engineering in the field of road, irrigation or other infrastructure development.

Ministry of Forest and Environment of Gandaki Province has also made a similar plan. People's representatives said that due to the lack of attention to environmental protection in many works done by consumers, the incidence of floods has increased. Member of Gandaki Assembly and former Minister of Industry, Tourism and Forest, Environment Dipendra Bahadur Thapa said that if conservation is not designed during the planning process, many risks will increase every year. He emphasized on the need to bring programs to reduce the effects of climate change. He said that the impact of climate change has also increased due to the floods and landslides in Mustang and Manang last year.

There are many people who suffer from this problem at the local level as well. Last week, the flood in Sarate River of Jaimini Municipality-9 washed away more than 100 plantations of land. In that incident, hundreds of paddy fields have been destroyed and livestock and quadrupeds have been swept away. More than a dozen houses have been moved to safer places after being threatened. Nar Bahadur Pun, head of Jaimini Municipality, said that it was clear that the protection of the rural road was not considered in causing the landslide. "Despite allocating the budget, it was not possible to conditionally put it into conservation. When the work was abandoned, the same development became the cause of destruction," said Pun. "We will now give priority to planting plants for conservation."

Pun said that in the coming year, he plans to build a nursery and plant saplings in places to control landslides, protect ponds, chaupari and roots, and work in the field of flood management. He also held the view that the Watershed Office should cooperate for that.

Land Conservation Officer Mishra said If we protect landslide-affected areas by planting bamboo products, allow water springs to flow naturally, and start the conservation work at the beginning with a 10 percent budget when building roads, disasters and risks will be stopped. Mishra informed that in the last fiscal year 2081/082, the office conducted 50 schemes for land conservation and 32 schemes have been listed in the current year.
