Solar electricity reached Tilicho lake

What you should know

One of the highest lakes in the world, Tilicho Lake (4,919 m.), is powered by solar energy. The Nepal Electricity Authority has installed solar in Tilicho Lake in Manang Ngisyang rural municipality-9 of Manang.

According to Nepal Electricity Authority Manang distribution center chief Raju Mahato, 3 solar panels of 130 watts have been installed. He said that 390 watts of electricity will be produced from this.

He said that it will be easy for internal and external tourists who reach Tilicho Lake to charge their mobile phones after electricity is available. The generated electricity has been connected to the tea shop (tea shop) in Tilicho.

Nepal Electricity Authority has installed solar energy at Tilicho Lake and Praken Gumba in Upper Manang at a total cost of 350,000 rupees. Battery, inverter, charge controller are kept safely in it. Even if the solar panels placed outside are covered with snow during winter, the snow can be removed and put to use, said Mahato, the head of the Manang distribution center.

The Nepal Electricity Authority has already delivered electricity from the national transmission line to the Tichilo base campus (4,250 m). Power has been distributed by placing a 50 KVA power transformer in the base camp. Mahato said that it will take 4-5 hours to reach the lake from the base camp and there are no human settlements around and there is no electricity in the place except the base camp.

Tourists who reach Tilicho Lake were not able to take as many pictures and videos as they wanted because of the cold, and after taking pictures and videos from the base camp, the batteries ran out quickly. If mobile phones can be charged at the edge of the lake, then tourists will be able to take great photos and videos.

From Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan to Lamjung headquarter Bensisahar through Manang headquarter Chame to Khangsar in upper Manang, you can travel by vehicle. To reach Tilicho Lake, which is about 45 km from Upper Manang, one has to go through Srikhark-Base Camp from Khangsar. Tilicho base camp can be reached in about 6 hours from Khangsar. It takes 4-5 hours to reach Tilicho Lake from the base camp.
