The gold and silver traders of Lamjung took out a motorcycle rally on Wednesday against the tax and VAT imposed by the government on gold and precious metal trade.

The gold and silver trader of Lamjung took out a protest rally with banners and flags in Sunderbazar and Bensi Sahar on Wednesday. 

The rally that started from Lamjung Campus Chowk in Sundarbazar reached Khatrithanti in Sundarbazar and turned into a corner meeting at Milan Chowk. The program was addressed by Ravin Bishwakarma, Vice President of Gandaki Province of Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation. After that, the businessmen who came to Bhoteodar via Paundi and Siundibar held a meeting in Krishna garden. The program was addressed by Deepak Ramdam, member of Gandaki province of Nepal Gold and Silver Business Federation and former president and advisor of Lamjung Gold and Silver Business Association, Manilal Bishwakarma.

After that, the team came to Bensishahr via Udipur-Bhakunde, circled the Bensishahar market and after reaching Manange Chautara, held a corner meeting at Bhimsensthan Chowk. The program was addressed by Ravin Bishwakarma, vice president of Gandaki gold and silver business federation and Totra Bahadur Bishwakarma, vice president of Lamjung gold and silver business association.

Bam Bahadur Bishwakarma, president of Lamjung Sunchandi Business Association, said that it is unfair to impose additional tax burden on businessmen during the economic recession and the government should withdraw this decision. Kaligarh and other employees also participated in the rally.

After the government announced the imposition of 2 percent luxury tax on gold and gold jewelry and 13 percent VAT on precious items including diamond jewelry, gold and silver businesses started protesting against it.
