Both the Chinese border crossings in Gorkha were opened

Ruila in Chumanuvri Rural Municipality-1 Samagaon and Nguila in Ward 7 Chhekampar have been opened under Nepal-China border area. Nguila crossing was opened last Tuesday (July 1) and Ruila crossing was opened on Saturday (July 5).

The Chinese side has informed that the border crossing has been opened for a certain period of time through the people's representative of the border area. With the opening of the Ruila crossing for one month and the Nguila crossing for three months, the local residents are preparing to go to the Tibetan market for the purchase of consumables.

The checkpoint, which was closed for five years during the Corona epidemic, has been opening for a certain time since last year. Tsi Dorje Lama, ward president of Chumanuvri-7, said that as soon as the information about the opening of the border came, the local Tibetan market of Chekampar went to buy food and other consumer goods. Before Corona, the Nguila crossing of Chekampar was open every twelve months. "Even though we got information that the border crossing was open, we have not gone now," he said. In terms of distance, Sya is closer to Tibet from Chekampar than Arughat and Gorkha Bazar in Gorkha. "The price is the same in the market there, because the distance is short, it can be reached in one day, it takes at least two days to bring the goods from Gorkha's bottom," Lama said. It takes three to four days to deliver consumables from Gorkha's lower market via Khachhad. After opening the track of Larke road and starting to run vehicles to Chumanuvri-3 Pangsing in winter, the freight from Pangsing to Chhekampar Khachad is 35 to 40 rupees per kg. Since they don't have to pay for transportation by their own horses, they go to the local market in Tibet.

This year, before the opening of the checkpoint, 'pre-border' meetings were planned to be held at Chekampar and Samagaon on the Gorkha side. In the meeting, it was proposed to discuss the security challenges that will arise when the border is opened between the representatives of both countries. In previous years, the meeting was held in Tibet. But due to the delay in receiving the order from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the proposed meeting on June 15 could not take place.

'It takes 10-15 days to deliver the order from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Tibetan authorities,' said Nima Lama, Chairman of Chumanuvri Rural Municipality. "Last year it was allowed to go to Sya village, this year it will be very easy to go from Sya village to Kongtang, which can be reached by car for two hours. If a meeting could be held, this issue could also be discussed," he said. He said that since Kongtang is a big city, it will be easy to choose and buy the necessary materials.
