This year litchi worth 11 crores has been sold from Gorkha. According to Krishi Gyan Kendra Gorkha, this year's production of lychee is better than last year and the income has also increased.
Prakash Vastakoti, head of Agricultural Knowledge Center Gorkha, said that production has increased by 7.5 percent compared to last year.
"This year litchi has grown well due to favorable weather and good garden management," he said. Palungtar Municipality-6 Gaikhur, Changli of Ward No. 7 and Dhunwakot of Ward No. 8 have been cultivating litchi commercially. Vastakoti said that now the farmers have almost finished selling lychees.
"Last year, 1,597 metric tons were produced in an area of 153 hectares," he said. Farmers have earned 3 to 7 thousand lychees from a single plant .
The farmers say that the income is satisfactory after the litchi production is good . Narayan Aryal of Palungtar-8 Dhuwakot earned two lakh rupees from the sale of litchi this year. Aryal, who has been cultivating litchi commercially for two decades, says that litchi has grown very well this year.
'Lychee needs water and drought, this year the weather was favorable, hail didn't damage it,' he said, 'the seeds were nice and juicy, All the farmers are happy this year. He said that the farmers of this region have been planting lychees for three decades in addition to growing corn. "Ghaiya, after realizing that lychee yields much better income than maize, many farmers are now planting it," he said.
Aryal has a garden of 250 litchi plants. He said that since the traders come to contract the garden from the full bloom, there is no problem of sale if litchi is produced. "Most of the farmers sell the lychee gardens by giving a contract around February," he said. He told that litchi was sold at 65, 70 to 100 rupees per kg this year. Farmers say that litchi sales are not a problem as they are located near the Prithviraj highway.
Lychees here are sold in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Damauli, Dumre and other markets. 5/7 Farmers say that farmers who have plants earn at least 20,000 during the season. Farmers of this region are attracted to litchi cultivation as the income is good even with little investment and little effort.
In the year 2030, after the lychee planted as a trial flourished, the farmers have commercialized lychee cultivation in this area . A nursery has also been established in each ward to protect litchi plants.
