Two persons involved in the illegal trade of gold and diamond jewelery have been arrested from Pokhara. The team of District Police Office Kaski arrested two persons including an Indian from Pokhara Metropolitan City-22 Pumdi-Bhumdi on Friday.

SP Shyambabu Olia, the head of the office, informed in a press conference held on Saturday that 49-year-old Kuldeep Singh of New Pratap Nagar, Punjab, India, and 47-year-old Ram Bahadur Vick of Rupandehi Tilottama Municipality-16 East Bahia were arrested.

9 types of jewelery have been recovered from them. 82 tolas of 16 red gold jewelery including solid gold, gold sikri, garlands, rings studded with stones and diamonds, earrings, mangalsutras, lockets, necklaces, earrings were recovered. Apart from stones, the market price of 22, 24 and 18 carat gold is Rs 13 million 41 thousand 8, said SP Olia.

It has been found that the two arrested have been friends on Facebook since 3 years ago. Both are from Kaligarh. Kuldeep used to sell gold in Gorakhpur, Bihar, Orissa, Delhi, Haryana and other places in India. He has given an initial statement that he was taking gold from Amarjit Sahu's gold shop in Amritsar.

Kuldeep contacted Ram Bahadur with a plan to sell gold in Nepal as well. Kuldeep also brought Ram Bahadur to Pokhara on the condition of giving commission if the gold is sold. Ram Bahadur also came to Pokhara from Butwal after Kuldeep asked him not to become a friend because he did not know the place. They came to Pokhara on May 4 and tried to sell gold in a gold shop. When the businessman did not accept gold, they returned. The news of illegal gold entering Pokhara reached the police through the businessman.

After the gold was not sold, both of them were arrested from Pumdi-Bhumdi on the border of Kaski and Syangja while returning from Pokhara.

The police suspect that Kuldeep may have brought Pokhara to sell the stolen gold in India. The two arrested persons are expected to be sent to the Revenue Investigation Department in Kathmandu on Sunday for further investigation.
