Tripal is changed every year in Barpak Dalit slums, house building is not finished

The district branch of Nepal Red Cross Society has distributed tripal to 24 houses of Dalit settlement in Barpak, the epicenter of the 12 Baisakh 2072 earthquake, after the dam built 10 years ago became dilapidated and started leaking water.

10 years ago, after the earthquake, 24 households were given relief by using the zinc of the old house and lived on the government land at Barpak entrance. They haven't found a new home yet. After the problem of water leakage was added to the roof made of old zinc, the locals covered the roof of the roof with Tripal, which was relieved after the earthquake. Even Tripal, which was relieved at that time, is suffering from the problem of leakage due to lack of water.

According to Subas Ghimire, head of the office of Nepal Red Cross Gorkha, 25 tarpaulins were distributed to cover the roof of the tower after the on-site study of the settlement showed that the situation was very miserable. "There is a roof made of old zinc. During the rainy season, water leaks from the roof. We have seen that some people have water inside the roof," he said. "When monitoring every roof, water is leaking from all of them," he said, "this is not a long-term solution, we distributed strong tarpaulin because the drought is over."

The victims who are living in the terrace are changing the roof tripal and zinc roof every year, hoping to build a new house in a safe place. Due to water leakage in winter, the elderly and children of the slums have health problems. The locals who have been making a living by making money have not been able to buy new land and build a house due to lack of funds. Poornima Sunar of Barpak Dalit settlement said that even after changing the tripal on the roof of the tahro four times, the problem of water leakage did not go away. "From October to November, the dew leaks, in Chait-Vaisakaha, hail and wind blows it away, and when it rains, it leaks and becomes muddy," she said .

After the Barpak Sulikot-1 settlement where the Dalit community was living in Barpak, the epicenter of the earthquake, was destroyed by the earthquake, they left the area immediately after the earthquake and settled in the government land under the Agriculture, Watershed and Livestock Office at Barpak entrance .

At that time, the Reconstruction Authority was preparing to build an 'Earthquake Memorial Living Museum' on about seven ropani ruins of the Dalit settlement . Some of the locals refused to leave and some of them stayed in the public land, refusing to return to the ruined land. After disagreements among the locals, the authority withdrew from the preparation of the museum. Because of this dispute, the victims here have not got a new house for 10 years after the earthquake.

080 The Council of Ministers meeting on 9th of July gave consent for the admission of 6 ropani 10 annas 3 paisa land of the former Barpak gauis . The cabinet meeting has decided to acquire 15 landowners under the name of 'Earthquake Memorial Park, Gorkha' for the construction of an earthquake memorial park. Due to this, the local people have given consent for the land to be acquired under the name of 'Earthquake Memorial Park Gorkha' and not to be built on it. But the locals living in the former place have objected to the decision of the Council of Ministers.

Those who are living in tahro on government land say that the old settlement is geographically unfit to live in. The decision of the Council of Ministers has not been implemented for two years. As the settlement problem is getting complicated, the Dalit community has also divided into two parties politically. Even though those who are living on the government land are close to the Congress and those who are living in former places, the local people are increasing political pressure according to their interests.
