Baglung Municipality Ward No.-13 is going to give subsidy to the farmers who protect Raithane rice. Raithane paddy farmers will get a subsidy of Rs 1,000 per person based on production. The Ward Committee has decided to introduce a program to encourage the production of 5 types of rice.

Ward Chairman Narayan Sharma Paudel said that the subsidy will be given from the budget of the next financial year.

The Ward Committee is going to give the subsidy to farmers who grow Anati, Jhinuva, Ramni, Jarneli and Anga varieties of Raithane. Poudel informed that the budget has also been allocated to keep the cash in hand after reaching the farmer's field in the coming November. Paudel said, "Farmers with designated paddy give notice in June-July, and the record is also kept by the ward," Paudel said, "A plan is also made to stockpile farmers' rice in the presence of ward committee officials." He said that this method and policy is going to be implemented to protect rice as it is endangered. In the first phase, the ward allocated Rs 50,000 to the farmers.

Before this, only a few farmers have been producing traditional rice. The Ward Committee has reached this decision for protection as the hybrids are destroying even the seeds of Raithane. The municipality has also said that this decision is "amazing". "We should support the system to increase the production and protect Raithane crops," said Mayor Basant Kumar Shrestha, "We are trying to create an environment where farmers can be happy."

Ward 13 has also supported those who planted at least 5 orange and lemon plants per household in the Dalit slum of Musurabari, where there are 140 households. 50,000 in the current year has been given to farmers by buying plants. The ward has been giving subsidy of Rs 2 per kg for transporting chemical fertilizers since last year. Free distribution of medicine for animals and birds, provision of free medicine for senior citizens above 70 years of age at the city hospital.

Apart from that, they have arranged to give one crate of eggs every time they come for a pregnancy test. For the past five years, the ward has been running a nutritionally friendly program. Poudel informed that an awareness campaign has been conducted to prevent the misuse of social media for teenagers.
