Paddy planting has started in the rural areas of Lamjung. By the end of June, farmers have started planting paddy in Kholasothar Rural Municipality-4, Ghimchephant of Bhujung and Ghermuphant of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-5, Ghermu.
The farmers have started planting paddy as soon as irrigation has started and rain has started. According to Kamsarki Gurung in Ghermu Khanigaon, paddy planting is being done vigorously in Ghermuphant from June 27th.
According to the ward chairman Ghanshyam Ghale, the locals have been planting local and hybrid paddy in Ghermuphant. Chairman Ghale said that local and Shankar varieties of hybrid rice including Marsi, Joudhan, Gori are planted. This place is cold now. There is no paddy above here. After planting paddy in Ghermu field, planting will gradually begin towards Taghring, Bahundanda," he said .
According to Narayan Gurung, the ward chairman of Kholasothar rural municipality-4, paddy planting has started from June 24 in Ghimche district of Bhujung. Locals have been planting Tamre (Takmare) paddy in Ghimche field . Lately Darmali has also been planting paddy. Hybrid rice has not been sown in that area yet.
'Irrigation is enough to plant paddy in Ghimche . "We plant paddy in Ghimche field first, then we plant paddy in Talhriyu, Ramche, Kaundi, Kizgun," he said. According to him, in Ghimche, which does not cultivate corn, rice is cultivated in the beginning. Then in June, the corn is broken and rice is cultivated in other fields.
The paddy planted in Bhujung's ghimche is stored in October. After that, he said, a cattle shed will be brought and kept at that place. President Gurung said that wheat, barley etc. will be cultivated after the cowsheds are gradually moved to other areas and swaras.
With the start of rice planting in rural areas, preparations for planting rice have also started in the lower areas. According to Saroj Thapa, Agricultural Extension Officer and Information Officer of Krishi Gyan Kendra, there has been unofficial information that rice planting has started in places with sufficient water. Now there is news that paddy planting has started in Ghermuphant and Bhujung of Marsyangdi. We have asked every local level agriculture branch to inform about this . It will be received in a few days," he said.
According to him, seeds are placed 15-20 days earlier than other places where rice planting has started. "In the rural areas where there is a little moisture, irrigation has also reached, it was seen that the planting work is a little faster in such places," he said.
According to Krishi Gyan Kendra, out of the total 61 thousand 819 hectares of cultivated land in Lamjung, 9 thousand 299 hectares are planted with rice. In the last financial year, 39 thousand 781 metric tons of rice was produced in 11 thousand 875 hectares of land.
Lamjung's Rainastar, Dhamilikwa, Bhalakhark, Chakratirtha, Ramchokbensi, Bhorletar, Duipple, Sotipasal, Parewadanda, Sundarbazar, Satrasaya and other large areas of Lamjung have been planted with more paddy, said Sudip Khatiwada, head of Krishi Gyan Kendra, senior crop development officer.
In Lamjung, farmers have been planting advanced varieties of rice including Ramdhaan, Sunaulo Sunandh, Sukkha 2, Savitri, Jethobudho, Akle, and Democracy. Similarly, Loknath, Gorakhnath, US 312, Makwanpur, Warala 3004, Mansuli and other hybrid varieties of paddy have also been planted. The Krishi Gyan Kendra has informed that farmers use Sukka 1, Sukka 2, Sukka 3 in places where water is scarce.
