2 people were killed and 14 people in the vehicle were injured when a pick-up jeep carrying passengers from Butiwang market fell off the road into a field. Three of the injured are serious.
The deceased are 75-year-old Bhimkumari Budha of Dhorpatan Municipality-2 and 73-year-old Nar Bahadur Karki of Nisikhola Rural Municipality-1. They were declared dead when they were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police said that the jeep fell at Batsedanda of Dhorpatan-5 around 5.30 pm on Friday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Basant Pandey informed that the jeep numbered 01-001 Ch 1775 of Lumbini Province fell down about 50 meters from the road. It is said that there are 16 people in the vehicle.
In the incident, 27-year-old driver Govind Thapa, 18-year-old Lumbini Mahat and 23-year-old Indra Kunwar of Dhorpatan-2 were seriously injured. In the same incident, 29-year-old Nirmaya Khatri, 38-year-old Devi Pariyar, 53-year-old Durgi Darji, 12-year-old Anju Pariyar, 8-year-old Biano Budha, 5-year-old Binay Budha, 75-year-old Manakumari Thapa, 21-year-old Tikakumari Kunwar were also injured. 35-year-old Dalli Bik of Ward No. 5, 30-year-old Tanmaya Kunwar and 11-year-old Shisir Karki of Ward No. 1 are also injured.
Among the injured, 8 people have been referred to Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara and 5 people have been referred to Palpa Mission Hospital. Nirmaya Khatri, who was slightly injured, is being treated in Burtiwang.
After getting information about the incident, a team of 15 people from the area police office Burtiwang under the command of police inspector Anand Basnet rescued the incident site. The accident site is 97 km west of the capital.
