After the Gandaki state government postponed the implementation of the Ride Sharing (Regulation and Management) Rules, 2082 for one month, public transport operators have participated in the talks. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management and the Businessmen's Negotiation Committee held talks for about one and a half hours on Tuesday.
Prem Subedi, information officer of the ministry and member of the negotiation committee, said that the businessmen had raised their concerns in the first round of negotiations regarding the problems in the transport sector, the lack of fare adjustments and the issue of number plates in ride-sharing operations. They told about the problems in the transport sector. The government did not discuss the regulations. Their main point was that ride sharing should not be given on red plates,' he said.
He said that in the second round of negotiations, how to operate ride-sharing for private vehicles will be discussed. The state government formed a 5-member negotiating committee on May 13 under the leadership of Secretary Kamal Kumar Adhikari, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport. Businessmen did not go to the negotiations on May 14, saying that they will not participate in the negotiations until the regulations are repealed. Then the state government called for talks again on May 18. The businessman replied that there is no reason to negotiate in the province as the agitation has intensified at the central level.
After the state government decided to suspend the implementation of the regulations on May 20, the businessmen who withdrew their protest reached the talks. Kedar Poudel, coordinator of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Businessmen, Gandaki, said that the first round of negotiations was positive. He said that since they will work like black plates, the number plates should also be the same in the discussion. He said that the second round of talks will be held after June 5 and more discussions will be held on the issue of number plates at that time.
