In 10 months, 12 and a half km road is blackened

There are dozens of incidents like contractors blocking roads and harassing passengers, non-payment of work done, and no work even after extension of the deadline. But in one of the plans here, the contractor has completed the road blackout within 10 months of starting the work.

By the end of May, the road that Baglung Municipality aims to complete by the end of June through the 'Urban Governance and Infrastructure Development Program' has been given a blacklist. 8 and a half km from Mulpani to Titaure, 2 and a half km from Odarchaur to Dhodeni and 1 and a half km from Ganeshghumti to Nirayaghat of ward no. The construction of this road started from the current financial year.

Mayor Basant Kumar Shrestha said that the Baglung Municipality has constructed a road with the help of a grant from the World Bank for 48 crores. By closing the road, there is a 7 km short way for the tourists who came to Baglung to go to Beni and for the tourists who came to Mustang to bring them to Baglung market through Beni. The marketing of vegetables produced by farmers in rural areas has also been supported.

This plan has made it easy to reach Parvat Lasti from Odarchaur of Baglung Municipality Ward No. 4 via Dhodeni. This road will help tourists to go to Myagdi and Mustang in a short way. Also, it will be easy to send farmers' products to the market.

The farmers of Dhodeni, who traveled for an hour and a half to send vegetables to Baglung, are happy that the road has been blackened.  "Yesterday it was difficult, now it is easy," said local Jeewanand Sapkota, "There will be a paved road even in rural settlements." Earlier, as there was no direct road to the market, the locals were forced to travel through Parbat's Lasti, Khaniaghat and Maldhunga. From treatment to administrative work of the municipality, they suffered. He could not even walk alone because of the forest road. Even after growing vegetables, it was very difficult to bring them to the market.

Tek Bahadur Kshetrile from Lasti in Parbat said that this road is also easy to transport milk on a daily basis. Every day he comes to Baglung market to sell milk with cans on his motorcycle. Coming to Baglung market via Maldhunga, this road has shortened the journey by half.

Manoj Sharma, engineer of Fewa Ashish Joint Construction Company, said that there were many obstacles while trying to complete this road within the stipulated time. "At times, there was even an obstruction by the police in the transportation of construction materials," said Sharma, "We are preparing to hand over the work after completing the work at the appointed time."

This road has also become easy to reach Nirayaghat and Dhodeni Ghat during cremation of most of the citizens of Baglung. As the Nirayaghat road has become level, it has become easier to transport materials to the old age home, under construction Manavseva Ashram.

The World Bank supported the urban governance reform and infrastructure development program in 17 municipalities across Nepal and Baglung was able to complete it on time. Shrestha said that with this success, it will be easy to ask for support in other schemes in the coming year.
