Nepal National Federation of Transport Businessmen Gandaki has boycotted the talks called by the provincial government to discuss the demands put forward by businessmen including the cancellation of ride sharing regulations.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management had sent a letter to the federation to attend the meeting hall of the ministry on Wednesday at one o'clock in the afternoon.
Kedar Prasad Paudel, coordinator of Federation Gandaki, said that there is no point in holding talks in the province as the movement is being led from the center. This letter came yesterday. Now the movement federation is commanded from the central level. We didn't intervene here," he said.
He says that he will stay in talks only if there is a message that the government is positive about their demands. "If the state government is positive about our demand, we will immediately call the central team here to negotiate," he said.
The businessmen under the leadership of the Federation submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Minister of Transport on May 8. The Ministry of Transport formed a negotiation committee on Tuesday to discuss the memorandum.
Under the leadership of Secretary of the Ministry Kamal Kumar Adhikari, a 5-member negotiation committee was formed with Deputy Secretary, Engineer and Officer involved. The members of the committee are Prem Subedi, Head of Administration and Transport Management Division, Legal Officer Jit Bahadur Basyal, Mechanical Engineer Kamala Dwara and Branch Officer Anil Subedi. On behalf of the
businessmen, the Ministry had requested the Federation to have 5 people participate in the talks on Wednesday. However, the businessman held a press conference at one o'clock in the afternoon. After the press conference, they submitted a demand letter to the Office of the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport, and the Chief District Officer of Kaski.
Businessmen have announced that they will stop transport services in Gandaki from May 16 and from May 19 across the country. The Gandaki State Government had published the Ride Sharing (Regulation and Management) Regulations 2082 in the State Gazette on May 1. The federation demands that the
regulation should be completely abolished, the provincial government's written policy should be concrete in relation to public vehicle operation method, import policy, and contribution-based social security fund should be implemented in the public transport sector.
