Many people may not know how much speed a vehicle can drive on the very winding Muglin-Pokhara road. The road department has set a speed limit on this Prithvi Highway that vehicles can only drive at a speed of 60 per hour. The department believes that driving only at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour on this road, which has hundreds of winding roads, will help in reducing accidents.
The work of placing the speed limit sign has started . In the first phase, the marking line (white and yellow signal marks) is being drawn on the highway floor . Drivers who drive at more than that speed must pay a fine to the traffic policemen who carry speed guns everywhere.
'There are hundreds of curves on this highway, vehicles can only be driven at the rate of 60 km per hour,' said Project Director Engineer Chudaraj Dhakal, 'The construction of the eastern section of this 90 km long road will be completed before June 29. Yellow and white road markings are being drawn on the highway floor.
Poles with 60 km per hour written and turn left and right traffic signs are being erected. Out of the 41 and a half kilometer road from Jamune in Tanahun to East Ambukhaireni, 39 kilometers of road construction work has been completed . Construction of 6-lane roads in Damauli and Dumre Bazar in this section has been completed . Apart from those two main market areas, every highway will be 2, 2 lanes (4 lanes in total) .
According to Vishnu Pandey, the information officer of the eastern section of the Prithviraj Highway, the highway of this section will be completed before the 29th of June. The cost of road construction of the eastern section is being worked on at a cost of 6.21 billion. In this section, only 2 and a half kilometers of roads are left to be paved. There is a rush of work going on and it is expected that the work will be completed on the specified date .
17 of the 18 bridges in the eastern section have been completed. The under-construction bridge across the Madi River north from Damauli Bazar will be ready by next year. The western section of the Prithviraj Highway from Jamune to Seti Bridge in Pokhara is under construction. It is aimed to complete the work of this western section by next January. According to Krishna Kunwar, the Chief Engineer of the West Section Road, this section has 38.88 km of road . As there are many market areas in this section, about 19 kilometers of road will be 6 lanes.
Apart from that, about 21 kilometers of Highway 2, 2 is being constructed . The Chinese contractor company China Communication Construction Company, which has taken the contract for the construction of the highway, has taken the contract for the construction of the western section of the highway for 7.4 billion. The construction of 10 of the 12 bridges in the western section has been completed.
Because of the zebra crossing every 500 meters, the speed limit here is set at 60 kilometers per hour during the highway survey. The speed limit is set because the risk of accidents may increase if the vehicle is driven at a higher speed.
By reducing the hundreds of turns of the highway and making the highway straight, the cost of road construction will increase and therefore the traffic has increased. "In order to reduce the number of bends, the highway should be built straight, so the cost of highway construction will increase," said Engineer Kunwar. During the initial design survey of this highway, a traffic survey of 2,000 to 5,000 vehicles per day has been conducted in this section. It is estimated that more than 15,000 vehicles will travel daily on this road leading to the tourist capital of Pokhara in the next 15 years.
